The Perfect Number of Bikes (for me)

This used to be an easy question for me to answer. "Just one more" I would say. Over time the answer has become a bit more nuanced.

I've been lucky enough to have many really nice bikes in my life. It was not uncommon for me to have several at one time. Now I'm starting to rethink my own personal "perfect" number.

There was a time when I was happy with one road bike, and one mountain bike. If I'm honest, there weren't many other types of bikes from which to choose. Bikes were much simpler back then, and there weren't as many niche categories.

It seem logical for me to have a "do-it-all" bike like the Surly Bridge Club, and some sort of cargo bike. While I love the Surly Big Easy, my current cargo carrier of choice is a Surly Long Haul Trucker modified with a Crust Clydesdale cargo fork.

This will obviously be different for everyone. A year from now, I may even have a different answer. That's the great thing. There will always be more bikes.

What is your perfect number?
