I talk a lot about "local touring". Meaning, using a "touring" type of bicycle for everyday use. Jeremy picked up his Clem Smith Jr. this morning, and it's a perfect example. Upright seating, multi position bars, fenders, racks, a basket and dynamo lighting.
He can (and hopefully will) use this bike for commuting, shopping, riding rough roads and light trails. Clem will do it all.
He could have gotten any number of bikes for the money he spent on this Riv. I don't believe any of those would ride as well, or be as functional as the one he trusted us to build for him.
