I’m pretty sure that everywhere else in the world this is just a bike. It’s only here that we’ve hung a label on it. Regardless, I’ve seen few as handsome and it rides like a dream to boot.
You could probably come up with at least one reason to ride a bike such as this. I came up with a handful.

Spent a great afternoon riding the greenways of Indianapolis. Saw many people on bikes. It’s a great thing……..or one would think.
I always try to smile, and wave or even say “hi there” if proximity allows. I’m greeted, more often times than not, with the………face. You know the one I mean. Maybe you don’t. It looks something like this.
The greenways of Indianapolis are a jewel. I am more than anxious for the city to add/connect more of these great trails. The moral of the story is this: Enjoy the ride. Wave to someone you don’t know.

I’m taking a long weekend. We’ve never just closed up over the holiday, but it seemed like the thing to do this year.
Get out and enjoy the weather (if you’re lucky enough to have it). Ride your bike!
Just never forget the reason for the holiday.
I grew up loving radio. I liked to listen to the old programs, and was amazed that good writing, and voice work could illicit vivid images in your mind.
Where I live in Indianapolis we have this little race every Memorial Day weekend. You may have heard of it. The long standing tradition here is to listen to the race on the radio. There are a couple of reasons for this. The simplest answer is that if the race doesn’t sell out, it isn’t televised.
The more accurate reason, I think, is that the broadcast team makes it damned compelling. Consider the number of “actors” involved, and the sheer size of the track. The drama can unfold, and change in the blink of an eye. Most of the announcers can’t even see each other during the broadcast. I think it’s the closest thing we have in the modern day to old time radio. Theater of the mind.
The internet makes it easier than ever to listen to radio from all over. Do me a favor and “dial” in the race this Sunday (if it doesn’t get rained out-it’s not looking good). See if you agree with me.
The news can be daunting. It seems like it goes from bad to worse on a daily basis.
In the midst of all this I don’t think people have ever been as distracted or self involved. I’m amazed at the number of people I talk to on a daily basis that won’t look you in the eye, or look up from their phone long enough to answer a question.
The savages that I’ve associated with would call it a lack of “situational awareness”. If I leaned a bit more toward the “woo woo”, I would say those people weren’t “present”.
I suggest we all keep a weather eye, and look out for one another. That would be a good place to start.
Being a child of the 70’s, Roger Moore was “my” Bond. It’s become fashionable to look upon him as “lesser” than Sean Connery or Daniel Craig. For the 70’s though? He was a camp Bond for a camp time.
My dad was/is a big 007 fan, and when one of the movies played on television I was allowed to stay up past my bed time. It was a special occasion.
I don’t go back and watch Moore’s Bond with the same regularity as some of the others, but he was the 007 of my childhood. May he rest in peace.
I was always a chubby kid……adult too for that matter. I’ve recently gone back to a (basically) grain free way of eating. I’d done it once before with pretty remarkable results. I’ve tempered my approach a bit this time ’round with the expectation that I will be able to make the change stick. Permanently.
The point of this missive is not to push one “diet” or another. The indisputable fact is that if you eat real food, positive things will happen. I’ve been able to lose a pretty remarkable amount of weight with little or no exercise.
The point of this? On a weekly basis I talk to folks that want to buy a bike to lose weight. While I will never be the one to begrudge someone a bike ride, it’s not going to do much for your waistline.
Ride a bike. Please. Do so often. Do it for your health. Do it for fun. It’s one of the few things we did as children that is still acceptable to do as adults.
Wanna lose weight? I can tell you from experience that it all starts with what’s going into the end of your feeding tube.
